Cruising J-Town: SFV Stories

Cruising J-Town is devoted to the 100+ year history of the Japanese American community in Southern California and that community’s long relationship to the world of cars and trucks: for work, for family, for recreation, for sport, for self expression, etc. There is both the Cruising J-Town exhibition, produced by the Japanese American National Museum and hosted at the Mullin Gallery in Pasadena through December 14th, and the Cruising J-Town companion book, published by Angel City Press.
On Sunday, October 26th, 1-2:30pm, at the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center, curator/author Oliver Wang will be sharing several stories from the Cruising J-Town project that center the Nikkei community in the San Fernando Valley, from hot rodding gardeners to kids who raced in minature cars. Many of their families directly contributed to the construction of local Japanese American institutions, including the JACC itself. Oliver will be joined by invited community members to share their family stories connected to this history.
