SFV Taiko Class

The SFV Taiko Class was founded by Reid Taguchi and Eryn Tokuhara. Classes are open to all skill-levels, and are held at the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center.

Summary

At San Fernando Valley Taiko we aim to teach a variety of topics. From Naname to Betta, small drum agility to performance technique - we never want students to feel like they aren't constantly learning. All levels are welcome! We want everyone to feel like they are part of a family when they come to class. Classes are structured in a group setting with a focus on individual, detail-oriented attention when needed. Students can request individual lessons outside of class as well.

The Story Behind SFV Taiko

San Fernando Valley Taiko is, in essence, two friends wanting to play taiko again. Reid and Eryn met, cut their teeth, and nurtured their passion for taiko in the arms of the collegiate taiko community. Wanting to continue with taiko after college and not having very many options, the two of them decided they would make their own taiko organization in their hometown. San Fernando Valley Taiko is founded on the principles of inclusion, family, and excellence. We hope that our organization can further cultural awareness in our community and spread the art form so that others may also fall in love with it as we have.
The mission of the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center is...
To preserve the Japanese culture, and
To promote the Japanese American experience through education, events, and activities for our community.
